New Gradall® Model XL 3300R
Designed for Versatile Performance On and Off Rails

NEW PHILADELPHIA, OH – The new Gradall® Model XL3300R hydraulic excavator is engineered for mobility both on and off paved surfaces as well as on rails, making it the ideal multi-purpose maintenance machine for major railroads, short line rail systems and city commuter lines.

The Model XL 3300R can quickly switch between a wide range of attachments that can include a mower to clear away vegetation or various buckets to clean up landslides and maintain track-side slopes and grades. Also popular is a grapple that can remove and replace rails and ties. Other available multi-purpose attachments include excavating buckets, pavement removal bucket, single-tooth ripper, ditching bucket, grading blade, fixed thumb grapple and 4-foot boom extension.

Because the legendary Gradall boom telescopes into position, the Model XL 3300R requires only minimal headroom, allowing it to work efficiently under bridges, trees and signage as well as in tunnels. By tilting 220 degrees, rotating in either direction, the boom can properly handle grading and mowing on the variety of slopes that rise above or run below track level.

For rail mobility, the Model XL 3300R has a diversified rail gear system. Once the machine is positioned over tracks at a rail crossing, individual hydraulic cylinders independently lower the rail gears into position, allowing for efficient and secure footing. Off the track, either on pavement or the terrain at the sides of the rail bed, the Model XL 3300R uses its standard four-wheel-drive wheeled undercarriage to maneuver the machine over most uneven terrain into effective working positions.

The Gradall Model XL 3300R, which has earned the important CE mark for international work, weighs about 34,000 pounds and delivers the high boom forces and fast cycle times that once were available only with conventional knuckle boom machines.

The Model XL 3300R Rail Maintenance Machine does not require working mode selection like most conventional models. Automatically, the hydraulics adjust for efficient rail demolition, concrete abutment removal and mass excavation in addition to unloading and spreading gravel, mowing or restoring proper grades. In high productivity applications, the Gradall boom delivers constant power throughout the entire digging cycle, unlike conventional booms that deliver greater boom forces at both the beginning and end of the cycle.

The large, adjustable seating module provides the operator with a clear view of all boom movements during the entire normal movement cycle. Visibility also is excellent thanks to a clear-span window design and low machine profile, providing a good view to the rear of the machine.

A tilting/telescoping steering column is engineered for smooth, comfortable steering, while foot pedals precisely determine travel speed and braking functions. Independent toggle switches control important features including two optional stabilizer arms, designed to further increase stability, and axle oscillation.

Operator comfort features include an overhead skylight, removable front window, joysticks positioned in convenient pods, air conditioning and more. The Model XL 3300R features the standard Gradall XL Series color scheme – gray with red accents and decals – although most special municipal paint preferences are available upon request.

A 148-horsepower turbocharged John Deere engine powers both the upperstructure and the four-wheel-drive undercarriage, and both axles are equipped with internal wet-disc type service and parking brakes. Maximum digging depth for the Model XL 3300R is 20 feet, 2 inches, while boom radius at groundline is 27 feet, 7 inches. The rated boom force is 20,150 lbs.

Most service points can be reached at ground level, and to help assure maximum life and productivity, a network of authorized distributors supports all Gradall machines, supplying service advice and parts which meet Gradall engineering specifications.
